Progressive Champions
In a democracy, representation matters. Yet most elected officials don’t look like or share lived experiences with the communities they represent. Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, LGBTQ communities, working class and low-income communities, and young people are underrepresented in public office, and often face headwinds in their candidacy.
If we can elect, defend, and support progressive champions who come from and are deeply connected to the communities that reflect the diversity of Washington state, we can help grow more representative governance that serves the public interest and build a pipeline of leadership for our state.
Targeted investments.
Voter Action invests in a diverse range of progressive candidates running in contentious races across Washington state, with a particular focus on rural and first-time candidates outside of Seattle. We invest in other PACs who are supporting candidates from key demographics and have deep relationships in those communities, and directly in candidate campaigns with high values-alignment and low infrastructure support in their area.
We are working to build a representative government that reflects the diversity of our communities - which means that we that we tend to focus our resources on supporting candidates from backgrounds and identities that are currently underrepresented in public office, including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, LGBTQ, working class communities, and young people.
