About
We believe a healthy, functioning democracy that represents and works for all people is the most direct path to a sustainable economy, a healthy environment, and a society where all communities have self-determination and the resources to thrive.
Voter Action is a Political Action Committee formed in Washington state in 2018. We were founded to connect the best practices and innovations in voter engagement, communications, and digital strategies being developed within the campaign infrastructure and political committees that direct the majority of resources in candidate races. This means:
Deep investment every election cycle in mobilizing and turning out opportunity voters - the “low-propensity voters” predominantly made up of communities of color, immigrants and refugees, low-income communities, and young people who have been largely left behind by traditional politics and campaigns. Investing in campaigns and infrastructure to support progressive candidates who align with our values and with backgrounds and identities currently underrepresented in public office - including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, LGBTQ, immigrant, working class, and young candidates. As well as supporting candidates who are likely to see lower investment due to location or perceived viability, and prioritizing rural and first-time candidates across Washington state. Learn more.
Supporting campaigns and campaign infrastructure that utilize innovative and proven messaging and organizing strategies that are modern, culturally competent, and motivate our base. Learn more.
FAQs
What is a Political Action Committee?
A political action committee (PAC) pools contributions from its donors to make independent expenditures (expenditures for activities that support or oppose a candidate or ballot initiative without any coordination with that campaign) or direct contributions to campaigns for or against candidates or ballot initiatives. When individuals give explicitly for these purposes, it must be directed to a PAC.
Where does Voter Action contribute funds?
Voter Action primarily invests in PAC pooled independent expenditure strategy tables that connect voters directly with trusted messengers in key legislative districts using a racial justice analysis and modern campaign tactics to provide the margin of victory in competitive races. We also invest in candidate campaigns for key races that are not tended to in our investments.
Aren’t PACs part of the problem with our democracy?
While SuperPACs are often vehicles for the super-rich to distort our elections, many local PACs are useful, transparent vehicles to pool resources for electoral strategies. Because of low contribution limits for donations made directly to candidates and the short timeline of individual campaigns, PACs are able to build the critical infrastructure to talk directly with voters about the issues and candidates that will make a difference in their communities.
Will my donation to Voter Action be publicly disclosed?
Yes, as a political action committee registered in Washington state, Voter Action is required to disclose all itemized donations and expenses to the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission. The information required to process and report a donation to Voter Action includes: donor name, home address, occupation, employer name, and employer’s city of business.
Additional information is needed to process donations from a business, organization, or entity account - please contact voteraction@washingtonprogress.org for more information.
Is there a limit on how much I can donate to Voter Action?
No, you can give any amount to Voter Action. Contribution limits generally only apply to candidate campaigns. However, in the three weeks prior to an election, you cannot give more than $5,000 to Voter Action or any other PAC.
